Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series brass dryer
The Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Brass Dryer is a forced hot air case dryer designed to quickly and evenly dry wet brass after cleaning in a rotary tumbler or ultrasonic cleaner. With 5 removable drying trays and a 500-watt heating element, it dries up to 1,000 cases in .223 Remington, or up to 2,000 in 9mm, in under an hour.
Why use a brass dryer
After wet cleaning your brass, for example in a rotary tumbler with stainless steel media pins, cases must be completely dry before reloading. Moisture inside a case can compromise the powder and leads to inconsistent performance. Many reloaders dry their brass on a towel or in the sun, but that takes a long time and the results are not always reliable, especially on the inside of the case and in the primer pocket.
The Brass Dryer solves this with forced warm air circulation. The top-mounted fan blows heated air through all drying layers, ensuring cases dry completely both inside and out. The convection action also reduces the chance of watermarks on your freshly cleaned brass.
Practical layout with 5 drying trays
The dryer uses 5 stackable and removable trays. Each tray has a finely perforated bottom that allows warm air to circulate freely, and retaining ribs that prevent cases from falling from one tray into another. You can dry a different calibre per tray without mixing them up. After a match where you shot both .308 Winchester and .223 Remington, you can dry both calibres simultaneously but separately.
The fan is deliberately mounted on top of the dryer. This prevents moisture from the drying process from reaching the electronics, which benefits the longevity of the unit.
Drying time and capacity
The 500-watt heating element brings the air up to temperature quickly (up to approximately 71°C / 160°F) and maintains it consistently. In practice, most batches are dry within 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the calibre and how many cases you have loaded into the trays. Smaller calibres like .223 dry faster than large cases such as .30-06 or magnum calibres, simply because they contain less moisture.
A practical tip: place your cases with the opening facing down in the trays. This allows water to drain out and the inside dries more quickly.
Part of your reloading workflow
The Brass Dryer fits logically into the workflow after wet cleaning. The steps are: clean brass in a rotary tumbler, rinse and separate from media pins, place cases in the dryer, and after drying proceed straight to the reloading bench. Combined with the Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series rotary tumbler, you have a complete cleaning and drying system.
