What are whiskey stones anyway?
Whiskey stones are small stones that you keep in the freezer and put in your whiskey glass when you want to drink the whiskey nice and cold. Freezing the stones makes them incredibly cold and they also hold this cold for a long time. They are so effective that a few stones in your glass are enough. So if you have a complete set of whiskey stones, you can drink your whiskey chilled all evening.
Drinking whiskey cold: should it be?
Well, if you ask connoisseurs, you will get different answers. Purists will say that you should not drink whiskey cold. This is because certain nuances of flavor can be lost when it is chilled too much. However, such a thing is very personal. If you prefer to drink your whiskey chilled, you should do so. Whiskey stones can help perfectly and are a better alternative than ice cubes. We are happy to explain why.
Why not ice cubes?
Whiskey on the rocks: a favorite for many. It can be delicious, but you have to make sure you get it right. In fact, for a good whiskey on the rocks, you need a generous amount of large ice cubes. These ice cubes must keep each other cold in the glass, so they don't melt quickly. If they do melt, they dilute your whiskey. With whiskey stones, you don't have this problem. So go for whiskey on the real rocks!
But, no water with whiskey so?
Another point on which people differ: water with whiskey: yes or no? It depends on the whiskey. Almost every whisk(e)y is diluted with water to reach the final alcohol content. Cask strength whisk(e)y is undiluted, and therefore a lot higher in alcohol content (usually around 55-70%). Most people dilute this whiskey with some water.
If you do this with whiskey with a lower alcohol content, you run the risk of the whiskey becoming too weak. No doubt you have heard that whiskey becomes tastier with a few drops of water. This is a myth: the water droplets cause a breakthrough in surface tension, which helps release the aromas. There is no other effect, really.
Anyway: so you can make a whole science out of chilling your whiskey. So just use whiskey stones. Whiskey stones cool effectively, with no aftertaste, without sapping the drink and without melting. To top it off, they look cool, too. That's why whiskey stones also make a great gift.
Ice cubes anyway? Do it in style!
TOUGH ICE CUBES
Cool ice cubes. What should you imagine? Well: ice cubes worthy of man cave. We know: it's just a detail. But an important detail. After all, there are things that are crucial in your man cave. Good booze, for example. And a lot of good booze involves ice. Whether it's a refreshing glass of Coke ( spiked with some rum or not), a cocktail or a good dram of whiskey. Ice is what you need.
SO AREN'T THERE ANY COOL ICE CUBES?
Of course, you immediately wonder: ice cubes.... yes, cool, but then again, aren't there any cool ice cubes? Sit back and let us tell you a story. This is John's story. John has a man cave. So do many of his friends, but John's ... yes, it is the cream of the crop. A fat interior, lovely chairs, a giant flat screen and enough controllers for a good game of FIFA or Call of Duty with all his friends. John is smart. He has installed his own minibar in his man cave. His cave really is fully equipped. When his friends come here, they know they will lack nothing. A good atmosphere, great conversations, and always delicious bites and drinks. Yes, that John knows how to be a good host for his mates.
On an evening of fanatic gaming or watching a sports game with passion, one naturally gets thirsty. A good host as he is, John always provides plenty of ice. Almost always. This evening, not only the cans of beer, but also the bottles of cola go through even faster than usual. Especially with Milton, who drinks Coke like it's water. But that doesn't matter: he is a guest and so he gets all the cola he wants. He likes to drink his Coke with ice, but on rare occasions he runs out of ice. John laughs, but doesn't back down.
He runs to the kitchen to get ice for his friend. After all, that's what friends do. John has a very sweet girlfriend who is always busy styling the house. That's fine, as long as she stays away from John's man cave. And she does. He knows he can rely on her and that there are still ice cubes in the freezer in the kitchen. That's right. What John just doesn't know is that his girlfriend went to the home improvement store that afternoon and bought new ice molds. Serving Milton his Coke without ice is not an option. And so John grabs some not-so-tough ice cubes shaped like lovable ice cubes. Desperate, he puts them in Milton's glass, hoping he doesn't notice. Of course he does figure it out, because Milton always figures everything out. Rumor has it that a robust conversation then took place. A conversation in which harsh words fell. In the end, all friends unanimously agreed that John can be forgiven his mistake, but his friends did wonder why John didn't just order cool ice cubes from Hop.co.uk.
WE HAVE COOL ICE CUBES. POINT.
You don't want to be like John. Just get cool ice cubes. Your drink tastes just a little bit better with ice cubes shaped like a gun in it, doesn't it? Just because you can.
