Where does Frankford Arsenal come from?

Frankford Arsenal is an American brand whose name has a rather interesting history. The name comes from an old ammunition factory in Pennsylvania that -between 1816 and 1977- was the epicenter of ammunition development for firearms. All types of ammunition were developed and produced there. The ammunition factory was huge, a city unto itself. In the American Civil War and both World War I and World War II, Frankford Arsenal contributed greatly. An interesting fact: during the American Civil War, the commander of Frankford Arsenal resigned and joined the Confederacy by knocking on their door with a huge load of arms and ammunition that he brought with him.

The Frankford Arsenal factory eventually closed, but the name remains as a tribute to what is considered a legendary place in American gun and ammunition history, where important developments were made. Gunpowder was tested, time igniters were developed, and many guns and ammunition were designed and tested. For example; the Gatling was born there.
