Universal rear bag unfilled, standard - Caldwell

A good rear bag does more than you might think. It carries the stock, holds your rifle at height and lets you fine-tune your elevation with a light squeeze. The Caldwell universal rear bag is a solid, versatile choice that works with most front rests.

The combination of materials makes the difference. The top is leather. That gives a firm, smooth rest that the stock does not slip on and that leaves no marks. The bottom is polyester, a material that does not stretch and does not sag. As a result the bag keeps its shape, even after long use and with plenty of fill weight.

You use the bag behind a front rest, but it also works fine on its own on nearly any surface. It works with front rests from most brands. The standard size is matched to the 4 inch center post of the Caldwell The Rock and similar rests, so the heights line up.

Filling it yourself

The bag ships unfilled. That is deliberate, because it lets you decide how heavy and how firm you want it. Dry silica sand gives the most weight and the most stability. If you want it lighter for transport, you can use corn cob or other inert filler instead. Fill the ears firmly enough, otherwise they will flop around while shooting.
