Lee Precision Breech Lock Pro / Pro 4000 Shellplate #4
The shellplate is the working heart of a progressive press. Every stroke advances it one position, so four cases get processed at the same time. One pull of the lever, one finished round. This Shellplate #4 is built specifically for the Lee Auto Breech Lock Pro and the newer Pro 4000.
Worth knowing up front: Breech Lock Pro and Pro 4000 shellplates are not interchangeable with Pro 1000 or Load-Master plates. The dimensions and the mounting are different. Make sure you order the right plate for your press.
Which calibres?
Shellplate #4 covers a useful mix of pistol and rifle calibres that share the same case head diameter:
- • .222 Remington
- • .223 Remington (which also means 5.56x45 NATO and .223 Wylde)
- • .380 Auto
- • .32 S&W Long
- • .32 H&R Magnum
Loading volume for an AR-15, or building practice rounds for a .223 bolt rifle? This is the plate you want. It also handles .380 Auto and the .32 revolver calibres, which is handy if you run one progressive press across several cartridges.
Working with it on the Pro 4000
The shellplate rotates clockwise. Station 1 sizes and de-primes, with a fresh primer seated on the downstroke through the Safety Prime system. Station 2 drops powder via the powder-through-expanding die, station 3 seats the bullet and station 4 runs a crimp die or Factory Crimp Die. With a full plate of four cases, output sits around 200 rounds per hour, provided your bench is set up well and your primers and bullets are within reach.
A practical tip: set your sizing die roughly one third of a turn deeper than first contact with the shellplate. That keeps your cartridge overall length consistent whether you have one case on the plate or four. Lee recommends the same thing in their setup notes.

Who is this shellplate for?
For the reloader who runs volume. If you own an AR-15 or a .223 bolt action and you regularly shoot 200 rounds or more per session, a progressive press pays for itself fast. The Breech Lock Pro is a popular entry point into that bracket. With the right shellplate fitted, you can switch to a new calibre in minutes.
Pair this plate with a matching set of Lee dies for .223 Remington or .222 Remington, plus the appropriate belling and seating dies for .380 Auto. Got questions about die order or the press itself? Drop a line at vragen@hop.nl, happy to help.
