The Boss single stage reloading press - Redding

The Redding The Boss is a single stage reloading press built around a rigid cast iron frame with a 36° offset. That offset opens up the working area, so you get a clear view of the case and easy access to the shellholder. There is plenty of power for full-length resizing, yet enough feel to seat primers without crushing them. For reloaders who want a dependable O-frame press that lasts a lifetime, this one earns its place on the bench.

  • Rigid cast iron O-frame for maximum stiffness and lifetime durability

  • 36° frame offset for the best visibility and access to the case

  • "Smart" primer arm swings in and out automatically with ram travel

  • Priming happens at the bottom of the ram stroke, for the lowest leverage and best feel

The Boss single stage reloading press - Redding

A good press is the heart of your loading bench. The Redding The Boss is exactly that. A simple, strong and dependable single stage press that will serve you for years.

The frame is made of cast iron. Not aluminium, which is what you find on many lighter presses in the same price range. You feel that difference the moment you pull the handle. The frame does not flex and stays in line, even when you are full-length sizing a stubborn case. Redding backs material and workmanship with a lifetime warranty, which tells you plenty about their confidence in this build.

It is an O-frame design with a 36 degree offset opening. That angle is not a marketing detail. It keeps the case in clear view and lets your hand reach the shellholder without fuss. With longer cases you really notice how much easier that makes the work.

Priming with feel

The "Smart" primer arm moves automatically with ram travel. It swings into position at the right moment and flips out of the way as soon as you no longer need it. Seating happens right at the bottom of the ram stroke. That is where leverage is lowest and where you get the clearest sense of the primer settling into the pocket. The result is primers seated to a consistent depth, without crushing them.

During sizing and depriming, spent primers are ejected through an opening at the back of the ram near the top of its travel. Fit the magnetic primer catcher to the frame and they collect neatly in one spot. No primers scattered across your bench.

Who is this press for?

The Boss sits just as well on a beginner's bench as it does next to an experienced shooter's setup as a solid second press. It handles rifle and handgun calibres, from small to fairly large. If you plan to load the biggest magnum cases later on, look at the heavier Big Boss instead. For the vast majority of reloading tasks, The Boss does exactly what you ask of it.
