TargetLock TL3000 laser rangefinder module - Arken
At long range every good shot starts with a good range reading. With a handheld rangefinder that means the same routine every time: break your cheek weld, grab the rangefinder, range, remember the number, get back into position and look up or work out your hold. The Arken TargetLock TL3000 cuts out those steps. You mount the module on the rail of your rifle, range while staying in position and read your correction straight away.
The TL3000 is roughly the size of a credit card and 35 mm tall, and it weighs 213 grams. The buttons sit on top, and the range button at the rear is textured so you can feel it easily even with gloves on. If you want to range without moving your firing hand, plug the included remote pressure switch into the port at the back.
Ranging and solving in one module
The rangefinder uses a 905 nm ranging laser (Class 1) and reaches out to 3,000 yards, around 2,740 metres, on reflective targets. According to Arken you get up to 2,000 yards on a tree trunk and up to 1,100 yards on game. Accuracy is +/- 1 yard, with readings in 0.1 yard steps.
The calculations run inside the module itself, using the DNT Ballistic Engine. You enter your data in the smartphone app and transfer it over Bluetooth. For each profile you set your zero distance, scope height over bore, muzzle velocity, bullet diameter, weight and length, BC (G1 or G7) and the twist rate and direction of your barrel, among other inputs. Combined with temperature and altitude, the TL3000 uses this to calculate your firing solution. The module holds ten profiles (A through J), which comes in handy if you shoot several rifles or loads.
After each reading the rear display shows your elevation and wind correction right away. The module also measures the incline angle on uphill and downhill shots and builds it into the solution. On top of that the display shows the cant of your rifle, so you can see whether you are level before you break the shot. If you use a Kestrel wind meter, pair it with the TL3000 for live wind and atmospheric data.
Green aiming laser and mounting
Alongside the ranging laser the TL3000 has a visible 515 nm green laser (Class 2). You use it to align the module with your riflescope and to confirm you are actually ranging the target you mean to. When mounting the unit that is a big advantage, because you can see exactly where the module is pointing.
You mount the TL3000 on a Picatinny or Weaver rail, horizontally or vertically. Thanks to the built-in gyroscope the module detects how it is mounted and rotates the display automatically, with nothing to set up. That lets you pick the position that best suits your build, your handguard and your riflescope.
Built for the field
The housing is IP67 waterproof and the module is recoil tested up to .50 BMG, so it keeps working on heavy calibers too. The TL3000 operates from -20 to 50 °C. It runs on a CR123A battery, good for around 5,000 readings or roughly two hours of continuous scanning.
