Tomahawk 2000B AB Sportsman ballistic rangefinder - Tango
For shooting at distance, knowing your range is only the start. You want to know how much to dial, taking into account the angle to your target, your bullet and the conditions. The Tango Tomahawk 2000B AB Sportsman does that calculating for you. It is a rangefinder with a real ballistic engine on board.
The unit determines the distance to your target out to 2000 yards, with an accuracy of ±1 yard. But where it sets itself apart is the built-in Applied Ballistics Sportsman engine. It calculates your firing solution and shows your correction right in the viewfinder, in MOA or MIL as you prefer. The angle to your target is included, because the unit also measures the incline up to ±90 degrees and compensates for it.
Paired to your phone
The real work you do together with the app. Via Bluetooth you pair the Tomahawk with the free AB Synapse BOSS app on your smartphone or tablet, available for iOS and Android. In the app you set up a profile with your rifle, your bullet and your zero. You pick your bullet from the extensive Applied Ballistics database or enter your own load data. Set the weather source to internet and the app automatically pulls temperature, air pressure and altitude from the nearest weather service. You enter the wind direction yourself.
Everything you set in the app is sent to the rangefinder. That way in the field you get a firing solution that matches your setup and the conditions of the moment. Pairing is done via a pin code that appears on the LCD and that you enter in the app.
Operation and modes
Operation is simple, with a measuring button and a mode button. You have a single measurement, a continuous scan mode to sweep across several targets, and a flagpole lock that aims at foreground targets on golf courses or narrow targets. On a successful lock the device vibrates briefly, so you know your target is locked without looking away from the viewfinder. After about 20 to 30 seconds without use the display turns off to save the battery.
Optics and housing
You look through a 6x optical system with a clear red LCD display, readable with or without glasses thanks to the diopter adjustment on the eyepiece. The housing is compact and light, 195 grams, and IP54 certified against dust and splashing water. The laser is 905nm and falls in laser class 1, which is safe under normal use. Power comes from a single CR2 3V lithium battery, good for thousands of measurements.
