Tornado powder funnel kit - Derraco
It sounds like a small thing, but filling your cases with powder goes a lot more smoothly with the right tool. Especially when your cases are packed full, you want the powder to settle down easily rather than hanging at the top of the neck. The Derraco Tornado powder funnel kit is made for that.
The big difference from an ordinary plastic funnel is in the material. This set is milled from solid aluminium. Plastic funnels quickly build up a static charge, which makes powder kernels cling to the walls and forces you to keep tapping the funnel to get everything into the case. That is a well-known frustration. With an aluminium funnel that does not happen: there is no static charge, so the powder does not cling and runs through smoothly in one go.
The funnel works together with a drop tube. It extends the fall path, so the powder drops into the case in a tight column and settles down neatly instead of sitting loosely at the top. That makes a full case easier to fill, without spilling and without running into a crunch when seating the bullet because the powder sits too high. It is a handy alternative to a separate, tall drop tube: everything in one set, in the right size for your caliber.
Interchangeable nozzles per caliber
The kit has six interchangeable nozzles, each matched to the neck diameter of a caliber. You thread the nozzle onto the funnel and set it on the case. Because each nozzle is sized for the caliber, it sits firmly and the powder flows through quickly. That is more pleasant than a universal funnel with one small hole, where with larger calibers it takes a long time for a full charge to pass through.
Build quality
Derraco Engineering, known for the Ugly annealers, mills this set from solid blocks of 6061 aircraft-grade aluminium. That takes a couple of hours of machine time per set, and you see it in the finish. The parts are type 2 hard anodized, which gives a smooth surface that the powder runs over easily.
