Carbon tripod with ballhead Arca-style 20 kg - Ulfhednar
The UHRT85CWBH is not the lightest tripod in the Ulfhednar range. That is not the point. This tripod is built for situations where stability matters more than weight. Heavy precision rifles with large scopes, spotting scopes with big objectives, or shooting situations where you need to absorb recoil without the tripod shifting. With 20 kg load capacity and thicker carbon legs than the 12 kg model, this is the tripod you choose when you know you need it.
Difference from the 12 kg model
The legs are thicker. Three sections instead of four, which means fewer connection points and a stiffer construction. The ballhead is larger, Ø44 mm, and holds heavier setups more firmly. The centre column is modular: you can split it in two or remove it entirely. Without the column and with the legs spread wide you get down to 25 centimetres. That is low enough to shoot prone with your rifle on the tripod. The 12 kg model does not go lower than 45 centimetres.
The trade off is weight. 2500 grams versus 1350. And 50 centimetres folded instead of 37. This is not a tripod you slip unnoticed into a daypack for a mountain hunt. This is a tripod you bring deliberately because you know you need the stability.
Modular centre column
The centre column consists of two parts that can be used independently. Fully assembled it gives you maximum height up to 180 centimetres. Remove the top section and you sit lower. Remove the entire column and mount the ballhead directly on the chassis, then you get down to 25 centimetres. That is a feature you do not find on many other tripods. Prone shooting with a tripod, no separate low platform needed, just by removing the column.
Ballhead
The Ø44 mm ballhead is larger than the one on the 12 kg model. More contact surface means more friction and a firmer lock under heavier loads. Arca-Swiss clamp, 360° panning with degree markings, 90° tilt via a notch in the joint. Two spirit levels, horizontal and vertical. The ballhead unscrews, so you can replace it with a geared head, a saddle clamp or an Ulfhednar Monkey Clamp if you want to turn the tripod into a shooting platform.
Carbon legs
Eight layers of carbon per tube. Three sections per leg with two rubberised twist locks. Fewer sections than the 12 kg model, deliberately. Every connection is a potential flex point, and on a tripod that needs to carry 20 kg you want to minimise those. Three leg angle positions give you flexibility on uneven terrain. Rubber feet come fitted as standard, ice spikes are included.
Hook and monopod
Under the centre column sits a hook. Hang a sandbag or range bag from it for extra downward pressure in wind. One leg unscrews and combines with the centre column as a monopod. Two products in one, same as the 12 kg model.

12 kg or 20 kg?
Mainly walking, hunting, or using it for a spotting scope? The 12 kg model is light enough and more than stiff enough. Shooting off it, running a heavy rifle, or want the option to shoot prone with your tripod at 25 centimetres? Then the UHRT85CWBH is the right choice. You feel the difference in stability immediately when you put a rifle on the ballhead and pull the trigger.
