The Move-Ya-Bastard 4 Posts Barrel Vise from Derraco Engineering is a heavy-duty barrel clamp designed for gunsmiths and serious shooters who change their own barrels. With four clamping posts instead of the usual two, this vise delivers significantly more clamping force, which is essential when loosening factory-fitted barrels like those from Tikka or Howa.
The base is CNC-machined from solid 1045 carbon steel and finished with a nickel coating for rust resistance. This makes the clamp suitable for long-term use, even in humid workshop environments. The half-circle clamping pieces that hold the barrel are manufactured from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, a material strong enough to secure the barrel without causing scratches.
Four thrust bearings for maximum clamping force
What sets this barrel vise apart from cheaper alternatives are the four integrated thrust bearings (model 51102). These bearings significantly reduce friction when tightening the nuts. The result: the same torque on the nuts generates much greater downward clamping force. Each thrust bearing can statically handle an axial load of 16,600N (approximately 1.69 tons). With four bearings, you have more than enough capacity for even the most seized barrels.
The nuts and bolts are grade 12.9 high tensile, meaning they will not deform under heavy load. The clamp is also spring-loaded: when you loosen the nuts, the clamp opens automatically. This speeds up the workflow when you need to change multiple barrels in succession.
Seven barrel bushings included
The Move-Ya-Bastard comes standard with seven aluminum barrel bushings in the most common sizes: 1 inch, 1.1 inch, 1.12 inch, 1.18 inch, 1.21 inch, 1.25 inch, and 1.5 inch. This covers virtually all standard barrel contours, from slim sporter barrels to heavier varmint and tactical profiles. You do not need to purchase additional bushings immediately to get started.
Installation and practical use
The vise mounts to your workbench using two included M12x90mm bolts with nuts, spring washers, and flat washers. The mounting holes are spaced 125mm apart, and the total footprint measures 150x70mm. The 110mm height provides sufficient clearance to work with a barrel wrench.
Note when using with a cheater bar: if you mount the clamp on a long lever bar, it is advisable to replace the thrust bearings with the included emergency washers. The bearings can be damaged when not perfectly level, which is difficult to guarantee with a cheater bar. Replacement bearings are available at a modest price.
