PCPS Next Gen Precision Primer Seater - Derraco
The PCPS Next Gen Precision Primer Seater from Derraco Engineering is a press-mounted priming tool that gives competition shooters ultimate control over primer seating depth. With a detent micrometer adjustable in 0.01mm increments (approximately 0.0005 inch), you achieve consistency that simply is not possible with conventional priming tools.
This tool fits any reloading press with standard 7/8-14 threads and works with T-shaped shell holders in Lee format. The result is a system that combines the precision of standalone priming tools with the convenience and leverage of your existing press.
Why primer depth matters
In precision shooting, the consistency of your primer seating directly determines your extreme spread (ES) and standard deviation (SD). A primer seated too deep or too shallow affects firing pin strike and therefore ignition. For F-Class, benchrest, and long-range shooters, this can make the difference between a winning group and a missed X-ring.
The PCPS eliminates guesswork by providing a hard stop that you set with the micrometer. Once adjusted to the correct depth for your combination of brass and primer brand, the tool seats every subsequent primer at exactly the same depth.
How the PCPS works
The tool uses a spring-loaded shutter that closes off the primer tube until you operate the press. When moving the press handle down, one primer slides into position under the seating pin. The continued movement of the ram seats the primer into the case pocket until the micrometer stop is reached. The tactile feedback through the all-metal construction lets you feel when the primer makes contact with the pocket floor.
The color-coded components for large and small primers make switching between primer sizes simple and error-free. An optional second "head" is available for shooters who regularly switch between small and large primers.
Compatibility with existing equipment
The PCPS works with primer tubes from Dillon, RCBS, Hornady, and other brands with an outer diameter of 7.92mm or smaller (standard less than 8.00mm). For shell holders, the tool accepts models in Lee format with flat bottoms. Derraco also offers their own competition-grade shell holders with tighter tolerances for the most demanding shooters.
