Ultrasonic Portable Mini AB wind meter - Calypso Instruments

At the range you want to know what the wind is doing. Not just how fast, but from which direction. Most handheld wind meters only give you speed. The Calypso Mini AB gives you both, in a device smaller than a golf ball and lighter than a phone case.

Ultrasonic, no moving parts

The Mini AB uses four ultrasonic transducers instead of a spinning vane. The advantage: nothing wears, nothing breaks, and the measurement does not depend on the orientation of the device relative to the wind. The ultrasonic sensors measure the time sound waves need to travel between the transducers. Wind slows or accelerates those waves, and from that difference the device calculates speed and direction. Sample rate is 1 Hz, one measurement every second.

Applied Ballistics compatible

This is the reason precision rifle shooters choose this wind meter. The Mini AB pairs directly with Applied Ballistics devices. Your Kestrel with AB, your phone with the AB app, or whatever AB compatible device you use. Wind data flows automatically to your ballistic calculator without manually entering numbers. That saves time and eliminates errors.

The free Anemotracker app also has its own Ballistics mode alongside Marine, Golf and Meteo. You can track your wind data, export to Excel or Google Earth, and install firmware updates, all from the app.

Compact and light

43 mm diameter. 47 mm tall. 78 grams. Put it in your pocket, hang it on a lanyard, or screw it onto a tripod via the 1/4" thread on the bottom. The size means you always bring it along. And that is exactly the point, because a wind meter that stays at home because it is too big or too heavy is useless.

Battery and charging

150 hours of active use on a full charge. That is weeks of range sessions. Charging is wireless via a QI pad, the same technology as your phone. No cable, no port that gets clogged with sand or dirt. Place it on the pad, done.

Accuracy

Wind speed: ±0.3 m/s at 10 m/s. Wind direction: ±1°. That is accurate enough for ballistic calculations. Every unit is individually calibrated in a wind tunnel at the factory in Spain, with a calibration certificate per device.

Mounting at the range

Screw the Mini AB onto a tripod or onto your WeatherFlow tripod mount and place it at your shooting position. Align the triangle marking on the device with the direction you are shooting. Wind direction is then displayed correctly relative to your line of fire. Keep the transducers clean and free from obstructions. Dust, ice or water droplets on the sensors affect the measurement.

Who is it for

Precision rifle and PRS shooters who use Applied Ballistics and want direct wind data in their calculator without manual entry. Hunters who need to quickly measure wind speed and direction in the field. Or anyone looking for a reliable, compact wind meter that lasts for years because there is nothing on it that can break.
