ELD projectile bushing adapter for Up-Right comparator - Derraco

Base-to-ogive is the dimension that counts in precision reloading. Bullet tips vary too much to measure from, while the ogive is the part that meets the rifling. The Derraco Up-Right comparator dial stand measures it with a dial indicator, no caliper in your hand. That works nicely, right up until you get to a very long bullet.

Why a separate adapter

The Up-Right comes with a standard bushing adapter for conventional bullets. On ultra-long projectiles such as the .338 ELD, the nose is so long that it will not fit in the standard adapter. The bullet then cannot rest properly on its ogive in the comparator bushing, and your reading is off. That is why Derraco itself states that bullets like these need the ELD adapter.

The ELD adapter gives that long nose the room it needs. The bullet rests on its ogive in the comparator bushing again, and you measure base-to-ogive just as repeatably as with shorter bullets.

When you need it

• You shoot heavy, long bullets such as the .338 ELD

• The tip of your bullet does not clear the standard adapter

• You want to sort bullets by base-to-ogive in your long range calibers too

• You regularly switch between short and long bullets on the same stand

You use the adapter together with the colour-coded comparator bushings from the Ugly headspace and bullet comparator set. Pick the bushing that matches your bullet's caliber, fit the ELD adapter in the stand and measure as usual. Going back to a short bullet? Swap the standard adapter back in.
