Stable measuring base for accurate case measurement
The Derraco Anvil Base is an extension for your caliper that creates a perfectly flat measuring surface on the opposite jaw. When measuring cases or cartridges with a comparator, the base of the case rests against this flat surface, resulting in more consistent and accurate measurements.
Without an anvil base, you measure against the narrow jaw of your caliper, which can lead to skewed measurements if the case head is not perfectly centered. With the Anvil Base, you have a spacious, stable contact surface that minimizes measurement errors.
Two versions for different preferences
The Anvil Base is available in two versions:
Thumb screw version: This variant has one large thumb screw that allows you to quickly mount and remove the base without tools. Convenient if you regularly switch between measuring with and without an anvil base. The downside is that the thumb screw may protrude slightly and can get in the way during certain measurements.
Grub screw version: This variant uses two recessed grub screws that sit flush on the caliper jaw. The result is a completely flat underside with no protruding parts. This ensures more accurate positioning and a firmer grip on the caliper. For serious precision work, this is the recommended choice.
Universal compatibility
Unlike the Derraco bushing holders, which only fit Derraco comparator sets, the Anvil Base is universally applicable. You can use this base with comparators from Hornady, Sinclair, RCBS, and other brands. Already have a comparator set from another brand? The Derraco Anvil Base is a direct upgrade for your measuring setup.
Robust stainless steel construction
The Anvil Base is manufactured from 303 stainless steel with brass set screws. This material is corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, so the measuring surface remains perfectly flat for years. CNC machining guarantees an accurate, flat contact surface for reliable measurements.
Application in precision reloading
Use the Anvil Base in combination with a comparator set for measuring:
- CBTO (Cartridge Base to Ogive): the distance from the case head to the bullet ogive
- Headspace: the shoulder bump after resizing cases
- Bullet length: the uniformity of bullets from base to ogive
Especially when developing accurate loads for F-Class, benchrest, or ELR shooting, a stable measuring setup makes the difference between good and excellent results.
