EZ-Indi digital depth gauge set 0-22" - iGaging
A caliper does have a depth rod, but it is narrow and does not always sit square on a surface. For reliable depth readings you want a wide base lying flat on the work, with the contact point square underneath it. That is exactly what this iGaging set gives you.
How the set works
Thread the digital EZ-Indi indicator into the 4" base. Lay the base flat on the surface and the contact point measures down into the depth. The indicator itself has 0-1" (25 mm) of travel. For deeper measurements you add one or more extension rods, from 1" to 6", which take you out to 22" (550 mm). The base has two threaded positions, so the indicator can sit in the centre or further towards the edge.
The four contact points let you match the set to the job. A ball for round or hollow surfaces, a point for narrow holes, and a long 1.26" point and spindle for places that need extra reach.

Indicator and readout
The indicator reads in decimal inches, millimetres and fractions down to 1/128". Absolute mode measures from a fixed zero, while incremental mode lets you set zero at any point and read the difference. For example, place the base on a reference surface, zero it and then measure the step or recess. Resolution is 0.0005" (0.01 mm) and iGaging specifies accuracy at ±0.001" (±0.03 mm). The indicator shuts itself off and runs on a CR2032 battery, which is included. It has a 3/8" stem and a #4-48 thread for the contact points.
For neck wall thickness, a micrometer is the right tool, such as the iGaging EZ Data tube micrometer.
