L.E. Wilson Bushing Full Length Sizing Die
The L.E. Wilson Bushing Full Length Sizing Die is a premium American die crafted from stainless steel that combines full-length sizing with precise neck control through interchangeable bushings. Wilson has been renowned for unparalleled precision and craftsmanship for over 80 years. This die enables you to size the complete case while precisely controlling neck tension for your specific brass and bullets in a single operation.
Why Choose the Wilson Bushing FL Die
Stainless steel for lifetime durability
Wilson manufactures this die entirely from heat-treated stainless steel. This material is harder than a Grade 8 bolt and withstands years of intensive use without wear or corrosion. The polished interior ensures smooth case movement and minimal friction during sizing. This is tooling built for life.
Interchangeable bushings for perfect neck tension
The bushing system gives you complete control over neck diameter. Bushings are available in 0.001-inch increments, allowing you to match neck tension precisely to your brass wall thickness. Wilson recommends their own neck sizing bushings, but Redding bushings also fit this die for maximum flexibility.
Partial neck sizing like dedicated neck dies
A distinctive feature of the Wilson Bushing FL Die is that it leaves the bottom 3/16 inch of the case neck unsized. This mimics the operation of Wilson's renowned neck sizing dies. Many competition shooters prefer this method because it improves concentricity and causes less stress on the brass.
Adjustable decapping rod
The included decapping rod is length-adjustable for reliable primer removal across different cartridges. An extra decapping punch is included as standard. The die contains no expander ball, which benefits concentricity since the neck isn't stretched after sizing.
Standard 7/8-14 thread
The die fits all common reloading presses with standard 7/8"-14 threading. The included stainless steel lock nut features specific dimensions (thickness 0.225", height 0.270", outer diameter 1.250") for secure and precise mounting in your press.
Determining the correct bushing size
Measure the outside neck diameter of your loaded cartridges with a precision micrometer. Subtract 0.002 inch from this measurement for optimal neck tension. This accounts for brass spring-back and ensures adequate bullet grip.
Example: You measure 0.269 inch on your loaded 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges. The ideal bushing size is 0.267 inch.
Different brass manufacturers have different neck wall thicknesses. Lapua cases typically have thicker neck walls than Hornady or Norma. Always measure your own loaded rounds for the most accurate bushing selection.
Case preparation for best results
To maximize your Wilson die's potential, case uniformity is essential. Sort your brass by manufacturer and preferably by lot number. Cases with uniform neck wall thickness produce the most consistent results throughout the reloading process.
Trim case mouths square and chamfer both inside and outside. Clean the inside of the neck with an appropriate brush to remove abrasive particles before sizing.
Using with the Wilson Case Gage
Wilson recommends using this die in conjunction with their Case Gage. This measuring tool verifies correct shoulder bump and prevents overworking your brass. The Case Gage is sold separately and is a valuable addition to your precision reloading equipment.
Applications
Benchrest and precision competition
Wilson dies are the gold standard in benchrest shooting and are used by top shooters worldwide. The combination of stainless steel construction, exact tolerances, and the unique partial neck sizing design delivers the ultimate precision required at this level.
F-Class and long-range shooting
F-Class shooters benefit from the consistent neck tension and improved concentricity this die provides. At 1000 yards, every fraction of MOA counts, and Wilson tooling helps you achieve those margins.
PRS and practical shooting
While PRS shooters often prefer faster workflows, the Wilson Bushing FL Die delivers excellent results for those seeking maximum ammunition performance. The robust stainless steel construction withstands intensive use season after season.
