Full length die set, two-die - RCBS
When you load your own ammunition, your dies are the heart of the process. This two-die set from RCBS is made for bottleneck cases and does exactly what a good baseline set should. Nothing more, nothing less.
The set consists of a full length sizing die and a seater die. The sizing die returns the whole case to the correct dimensions. It works the outside of the case, deprimes it, and opens up the neck so the bullet fits again. All of that happens in a single pull of the handle. Headspace is held to minimum tolerance, so the case body length does not change during sizing.
The sizing die carries an expander-decapping unit. The decapping pin is replaceable, so if you snap one you simply thread in a new one. The die also has vent holes. Those small openings let trapped air and excess case lube escape, which prevents dented or damaged cases.
The seater die
The seater die places the bullet at the overall length (COAL) you set through the seater plug. The body has a crimp function, so you can crimp the bullet at the same time as you seat it if you want to. Whether that is a roll or taper crimp depends on the cartridge. Many rifle bullets have no cannelure and are seated without any crimp, so for most precision work you leave that function unused. For ammunition that takes a beating it is good to have the option.
The dies are machined from RCBS' own die steel to tight tolerances. The inside is cleanly finished, so the case runs in and out smoothly without scratching. RCBS backs material and workmanship with a lifetime warranty, for as long as you remain the original owner.
