Frankford Arsenal Case Prep Expansion Kit
The Frankford Arsenal Case Prep Expansion Kit is an add-on set for the Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Case Trim & Prep Center. The kit contains four hardened high-speed steel (HSS) tools that let you uniform primer pockets and remove military crimps – two operations the base station doesn't cover out of the box.
What's included?
The expansion kit contains four cutting tools:
- Primer pocket uniformer/cleaner – small
- Primer pocket uniformer/cleaner – large
- Primer pocket crimp remover – small
- Primer pocket crimp remover – large
All four tools feature standard 8-32 threading and fit directly onto the auxiliary shafts of the Frankford Arsenal Case Trim & Prep Center. They're also compatible with other case prep systems that use the same 8-32 thread.
Primer pocket uniforming
The primer pocket uniformer cuts the bottom of the primer pocket to a consistent depth. This matters because factory primer pockets often vary slightly in depth, which affects how deep your primer sits and therefore the consistency of ignition. Especially if you're striving for maximum precision – think F-Class or benchrest – uniforming primer pockets makes a measurable difference.
Military crimp removal
Cases of military origin (such as most surplus .223/5.56 NATO and .308/7.62 NATO brass) have a crimp around the primer pocket that prevents the primer from loosening under harsh conditions. For reloading, this crimp must be removed, otherwise you cannot seat a new primer. The crimp removers in this kit cleanly cut away the crimp without damaging the pocket.
Hardened high-speed steel
The cutting tools are made from hardened HSS (high-speed steel). This material retains its edge significantly longer than standard tool steel and can process thousands of cases before dulling. HSS is also heat-resistant, which is important during powered use in the prep center where friction generates heat.
