Primer pocket brush combo from RCBS

After firing, combustion residue remains inside the primer pocket of your case. That buildup can prevent a new primer from seating properly or igniting consistently. The RCBS Primer Pocket Brush removes that residue with a few twists — quickly, easily and without damaging the pocket.

What is included?

The combo set contains three components:

- Brush for large primer pockets (large rifle / large pistol)
- Brush for small primer pockets (small rifle / small pistol)
- No-roll accessory handle with storage for the unused brush

The brushes simply thread into the handle and are interchangeable. The handle features an ergonomic shape with a flat side that prevents it from rolling off your bench. The brush you are not using is stored in the opposite end of the handle — so both sizes are always at hand.

Stainless steel bristles for long life

The bristles are made from stainless steel. They are stiff enough to break loose combustion residue, yet will not damage the brass of the pocket. After a few quick twists the pocket is clean and ready for a fresh primer. The brushes are replaceable — if the bristles become less effective after thousands of cases, replacement brush heads are available separately.

By hand or in a drill

The brushes are designed for manual use with the included handle. When processing larger batches of brass, you can also chuck the brush into a drill or cordless screwdriver. At low speed you can clean primer pockets in a fraction of the time. Many reloaders use this method when working through bigger batches.

When should you clean the primer pocket?

After every firing, before reloading the case. Combustion residue from the primer forms a layer of buildup on the floor of the pocket. With just a few cases you may not notice the difference, but with larger batches inconsistent ignition can lead to velocity spread in your loads. A clean pocket ensures the primer seats at a uniform depth and ignites consistently.
