Lyman Flash Hole Cleaner
The Lyman Flash Hole Cleaner is a compact steel hand tool that removes caked-on residue from the flash holes and primer pockets of your cases. Especially after tumbling with walnut or corncob media, small particles often lodge in the flash hole. These particles can obstruct the passage of the primer's spark to the powder, leading to inconsistent ignition or in the worst case a misfire. This tool clears them in a single motion.
Why clean flash holes?
The flash hole is the small opening between the primer pocket and the powder charge. When the primer fires, the flame shoots through this hole and ignites the powder. If residual material is stuck inside – whether media granules from tumbling, carbon deposits from firing or copper residue – it can slow down or deflect the flame. The result: varying pressure build-up and therefore varying muzzle velocity. For precision shooting, that's unacceptable.
Simple to use
Insert the steel pin through the case neck into the case and push the residual material out through the flash hole. It literally takes one second per case. The ergonomic polyurethane handle sits comfortably in hand, even when processing a larger batch of brass.

Difference from a flash hole uniformer
Note: this is a cleaner, not a uniformer. The cleaner removes loose particles and debris from the flash hole. A flash hole uniformer such as the K&M Precision model actually cuts the flash hole itself to a uniform diameter and removes manufacturing burrs. Uniforming is done once on new brass; cleaning is done after every cleaning cycle.
Fits into your case prep workflow
Use the flash hole cleaner as an intermediate step after tumbling and before priming. Combine it with an RCBS Primer Pocket Brush for cleaning the primer pocket itself, or go for the Frankford Arsenal Case Prep Essentials Kit if you want multiple case prep tools in one set. Working with a powered station? The Frankford Arsenal Case Prep Expansion Kit with primer pocket uniformers and crimp removers makes a solid addition.
