Pre-treated with polishing compound
Unlike untreated corn cob media, the Lyman Corncob Plus comes already infused with a special polishing agent. This means you don't need to add separate brass polish. Simply load your cases with the media into your tumbler, switch it on and after a few hours you'll have gleaming, clean brass ready for reloading. The treated formula delivers a noticeably higher lustre than what untreated granulate can achieve.
Corn cob versus walnut media
When it comes to dry case cleaning, there are two main types of media: corn cob and walnut shell. Walnut media such as the Frankford Walnut Media is harder and more aggressive at removing heavy fouling and carbon buildup, but leaves a less shiny finish. Corn cob media is softer and polishes cases to a bright shine without damaging the brass surface.
Many experienced reloaders use both in sequence: first a cycle with walnut media to strip away stubborn residue and carbon deposits, followed by a second cycle with corn cob media for the final polish. This two-step approach produces the best possible results.
How to use
Fill your vibratory case tumbler with enough media to fully cover your cases. On average, 2 to 4 hours is sufficient to bring brass back to like-new condition, depending on the level of soiling. Heavily fouled cases or those with stubborn tarnish may require a longer session.
The media produces very little dust compared to walnut granulate, which is a welcome benefit in your reloading room. You can reuse the media through multiple cleaning cycles. When the granulate turns dark and no longer delivers a satisfactory shine, it's time to replace it.
Tip: always remove spent primers with a decapping die before tumbling. This allows the media to reach the primer pockets for a more thorough clean.
Suitable for all calibres
Lyman Corncob Plus media works with all common rifle and pistol calibres. From .223 Remington to .308 Winchester, from 9mm to .45 ACP, the fine 12/20 grit size ensures the granulate reaches every surface of the case. The media is compatible with all standard vibratory case tumblers on the market.
